Jamdani Saree
The History
The last standing historical "Muslin"

To truly understand the history of Jamdani sarees, we must travel back to the 17th century, to the Mughal era. From that time until today, the weavers of Dhaka have woven more than just fabric—they have woven art, culture, and history into every piece. From being the favored attire of Mughal queens to becoming an essential part of the modern bride’s ensemble, a woman’s love for Jamdani remains timeless and unwavering. It is a fine, traditional muslin textile produced in Narayanganj and Dhaka, representing Bangladesh's rich heritage and craftsmanship.
In the weaving communities of Narayanganj, Sonargaon and Dhaka, this centuries-old heritage still lives on. Generation after generation, artisans continue to weave Jamdani with patience, skill, and devotion, preserving a legacy that refuses to fade.
At “Bibir Petra,” we strive to bring forward the stories of these weavers—their artistry, their patience, and their enduring dedication. We hope you will join us and become a part of this beautiful journey.
